PROJECT BASED LEARNING
PROJECT BASED LEARNING RESEARCH AND CREATIONS
When we design tasks and content, we must ensure that they are rigorous and have relevance to our students’ lives. When we do this, we know that we are focusing on culturally responsive teaching and providing students with profound and enduring learning experiences.
Our students depend on us to challenge them and provide them with rigorous tasks that are relevant to their experiences, learning styles, interests and lives. Incorporating project based tasks is one way to increase rigor and provide relevance. Project/problem based learning provides students with great skills, such as communication, collaboration, creativity, inquiry and others. In addition, project based learning is cross curricular and students are given the opportunity to apply and blend knowledge and information gained in different subjects. Start off small or big, and revise your projects as you reflect on students engagement and artifacts; I believe a project can be integrated for each unit. Introduce the projects at the start of the unit so it gives students clarity, direction and interest and it creates a hook. Here is a link to some PBL projects that I created for you.

I created this PBL timeline based on an interview prompt to share some ideas for implementing PBL tasks within the year. This timeline includes elements of the SAGE PBL process steps and provides a more detailed explanation of the processes invloved. It also allows for the teacher to obtain quantitative data. While it is my opinion that a PBL project can be done for each unit, this timeline provides the ways to incorporate at least three PBL project within the year.
